What does Obama say on Food Safety?

Food Safety is an issue of paramount importance to US President Barack Obama. This is made evident by the creation of a Food Safety Working Group, whose responsibilities are focussed on upgrading food safety systems and identifying risk so as to protect people from food related illness.  The Obama Administration has also made it clear that the catalyst for achieving these goals had to come through educating people in food safety.

Funny reasons for Panic Buying Food

Here is a satirical look at reasons why there is not much food left in the supermarkets (other than the shoppers who have been panic buying food as a result of recent food supply disruption caused by the Iceland Volcano).
  • Rice is a much sought after food after producers realised that the value of just 1 grain rises by a few thousand % if you personalise it by putting a persons’ name on it and sell it as jewellery.
  • Putting concrete paving over fields so tractors can travel faster is not working out as well as first hoped.
  • People are eating more and more organic food, due to rising concerns about health risks from eating beef, an ingredient that is sometimes used in the construction of burgers sold in fast food outlets.
  • People are less interested in buying poor quality meat flavoured food that has minimal nutritional content from fast food outlets, choosing instead to lead active healthy lifestyles and buy actual food.  I like to eat some proper food myself now and then. I ate a banana just last weekend.

Volcano Threat to summer BBQs

The Iceland volcano eruption has created a cloud of black ash, which has caused havoc to airlines, businesses and thousands of people.

The toxic ash from the volcano has other implications, other than cancelling flights.

Foods the Volcano ash cloud will affect

Many Supermarkets have suffered from various supply problems as a result of the disruption to their stock delivery. The Iceland Volcano ash cloud has caused many shoppers to engage in panic buying, with customers stockpiling on goods such as bread, water, milk, as well as fruit and vegetables.

However, reports from the supermarket giants say that the only foods that their stores might run out of, are FIGS and LIMES. So Brits may have to do without the added luxury of a slice of lime in their drinks for a few weeks, out of respect for the Volcano.

Food suppliers could go bust

Given this years’ winter and heavy snowfall, is the recent disruption to airlines really that shocking? No one is suggesting that the disruption from the Volcano Ash Cloud could have been predicted, but airlines have faced difficulties before; through employee strikes and also during the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks.

It moves on your plate, is live food exotic?

Exotic foods make eating much more fun, and many exotic dishes have surfaced from the sea.

You are right to be a little sceptical about your meal from a restaurant if the various ingredients have been delicately organised into an intricate pattern on your plate.  Why has the chef spent all that time using their fingers to arrange the salad into a pyramid, when we would have all preferred it if they had used that time to properly cook the fish?

There are many exciting sea food dishes, some of the more expensive sea food involves fishermen going to extreme lengths to catch them, catching many fish by hand, and today we have a huge choice of sea food to try, like Shark, for example.

Experienced fishermen know that a shark will only try to attack you if you are wet.
