Its dangerous to handle the outside of chicken wrapping
So now, even the packaging of high risk food products is now potentially dangerous.
It is being reported that bacteria than can cause food poisoning is now being found on the outside of the chicken wrapping, due to contamination at the initial production stage.

This means thorough hand washing would now apply for after someone has simply been picking up a chicken product from a supermarket shelf, regardless of whether you unwrapped the plastic packaging or not.
So in buying a wrapped chicken product in a supermarket, you are effectively handling raw meat, bringing with it the risk of exposure to food poisoning bacteria like campylobacter.
If the product is then placed in the shopping trolley, and on the mini escalator belt at a till, and in the car, then in the fridge once it gets home, the chances of spreading bacteria around increase dramatically. Not to mention the other products a shopper touches in the supermarket.
If handling unopened raw meat packaging is as dangerous as handling raw meat, then everyone would need to be as careful as possible when shopping to ensure they aren’t inadvertedly spreading food poisoning bacteria to other places without realising it.
